Wakeboarding

Paradise Adventures Costa Rica’s goal is to help make your vacation a memorable one.
For those who have never wakeboarded, lessons on how to wakeboard from our instructor’s almost guarantees you a ride first shot.

Wakeboarding has been growing dramatically over the past five years thanks to the exposure it has been getting globally. You can almost wakeboard anywhere you can put a boat and find glassy waters; provided you respect the waterways (keep it clean people this is why we Wakeboarders have the option.)

Riders range in age from 8- 65, many new comers to the sport, die hard’s, who remember when bindings were elastic bands strapping you to a tank of a board, allot of skateboarders, even more snowboarders and many old school skiers.

The many that participate in wakeboarding do it for adrenalin, freedom, feeling of being younger, the high, the exercise, the progression. Something about the feel of a board under feet, slicing through glassy water, hitting a wake that gives you wings, performing some aerial maneuver and finally landing gracefully below, feeling like the moment was in slow motion.

All of the above can be experienced from wakeboarding, however, one of the unique qualities of Paradise Adventures Costa Rica, is that as a visitor you can experience all of it meters away from the active Arenal volcano.

The Arenal Volcano is in your sites, you are strapped into a board, the sun is shining and your favorite tunes pumping. Are you ready to steal the show from Mother Nature, will you use the power of the volcano to have a session you have never experienced before?

So many wakeboarding companies have made the sport of wakeboarding more comfortable, precise and safe. Binding are comfy, easier to put on and have a tighter fit, allowing for a longer, safer and controlled ride.

Most wakeboards now come with integrated fins and rails to help with tracking, boards now have more pronounced shapes to give the rider extra pop for big tricks. A solid flex free rope combined with a wide comfortable handle give you grip to hold on longer and ride it out.

Wakeboarders realize wakeboarding is an athletic sport that cannot be enjoyed without a proper boat and experienced watersports driver. So often, I have found myself looking for a good pull and found no one on board who has any experience in driving a boat.

Here are some basics: Number one you want to get the rider out of the water quickly as the resistance can build up fast. Once the rider is on the water, maintain a steady speed of around 19-22 miles per hour, keep a straight line and when you run out of water make a wide turn that does not pull the rider back through the wake.

It is wise to retrace the same directions you just came from. I usually make a few passes to insure it will give the riders a sweet pull, this is better than having the rider suit up, jump in the water and realize it is to choppy or the driver has to turn to much.

A friendly Blog From the captain at PACR, Feel free to add any of your own information that would help others learn how to wakeboard and enjoy the sport of wakeboarding.
