 Warm Up

Warm Up

Tip of the day: Warm up

Allot of lakes are cool, and muscles and the cold do not get along well. If you know your turn is coming start stretching in the boat to get the blood flowing.

If it’s hot and sunny like Lake Arenal Costa Rica you may want to cool down, make sure the boats off and jump in, gearing up in the water is a great way to warm up the core.

Your core is what keeps you body inline with the board and helps bring your legs back under you quickly after a trick. Keeping the rope just below the core requires strong abdominal muscles, biceps and shoulders.

I will share some exercises and stretches you can perform on the boat in some upcoming tips of the day. Building up and stretching these muscles will keep you riding longer and safer.

 Double Up

Double Up

Tip of the day: Creating a double up that keeps riders coming back for more.

The normal wake just does not cut it any more. With better boards, bindings, ropes, towers and boats wakeboarders are going bigger and bigger,

Map out a course before you start. What works for me is a route shaped like a dog bone.

    1) Keep a distance of fifty meters from shore if possible. As you approach the fifty meters mark turn the boat forty five degrees left and stay in that direction for five seconds.(holding for five seconds allows for a wider turn, making it easier for the boat stay plane and giving the previous waves more time to build before they meet.) increases throttle slightly through the turn.

    2) Straighten out boat and head back in the direction you came. (Returning down your original path while keeping the boat steady and wide will make a great double up every time.)

    3) Slowly reduce throttle, bring boat back to the speed you were at before the turn,

    4) Keep your athletic stance (knees slightly bent, standing tall) and rope close (at your hips, just below your core)

    5) Just before launching off the double up straighten your legs, this action will give you a little more pop.

The hardest part of creating a great double up is staying on plane at a steady speed through the chop (remember to increase throttle slightly through the turn, keep it steady and wide)

Do not be afraid of the double up, it is the fear that will attract the failure; no guts no glory.
