Directions to Paradise Adventures Costa Rica’s New Home in La Fortuna

Coming from San José, (the scenic route), passing through  San Ramón de Alajuela, approximately 150 kilometers from San Jose.

Time of Travel 3 and half Hours.
Best time to Travel, Morning or early afternoon, avoiding possibilities of fog.

Directions from  San Jose:

1. Head north on The Inter American Highway pass the Juan Santa Maria Airport until you reach San Ramón (55 km from the Airport). You will see an Arenal Volcano road sign on your right
2. Turn right to San Ramón, continue straight until it hits the main avenue cutting through the city. Turn left and continue two blocks to the San Ramón Hospital. You’ll see a Tabacón Resort sign, turn RIGHT.
3. Follow the signs to Arenal Volcano and La Fortuna, passing through a number of small town on the way.
You will come to a fork in the road, with a toll both (Payment Optional).  Turn RIGHT at the small Tabacon Sign.
Follow road to the town of Santa Clara, cross small metal bridge
Turn LEFT when you reach a small square.
Follow road for 44 klm, you will come to a small town called El Tanque; Pass through town drive another 19klm to La Fortuna.

Directions from the Liberia International airport or from any of the main beaches in the Guanacaste Region,

Drive west to Liberia, Canas and on to Tilaran.

Drive Time 3 and half to 4 hours

1.if you are coming from the beach follow main road to the city of Liberia. If you are coming from any of the following beaches: Langosta, Tamarindo, Grande, Flamingo, Conchal, Potrero or Sugar Beach, the drive will bring you back to the town of Belen.

Turn north towards Liberia, drive through Filadelfia.

Driving time to the Inter American Highway is approximately 60 minutes.

2. Coming from The Papagayo, Head back towards Liberia International Airport, turn LEFT towards to Liberia. drive time 35-45minutes.
3. Coming from Ocotal, Hermosa, Coco, Panamá. Follow road that ends near Filadelfia , same road that connects Liberia with Santa Cruz.
Turn north, pass the Liberia International Airport, drive for 15 minutes until you reach Liberia and the international Highway.
4. You will come to a stop light, burger king on left and gas station on right. Turn RIGHT onto the Inter-American Highway
5. Drive for approx 40 minutes past Bagaces until you reach Canas. (Follow Signs)
Just passed a Bridgestone tire shop on your left, before the stadium you will see a Road Sign Pointing LEFT to Lake Arenal and Arenal Volcano.
Turn LEFT into Canas, exiting the Inter-American Highway.
Follow road through town until you  reach a 3 way you will  see a brown sign on your right for the Arenal Volcano. Turn LEFT at this 3 way and follow signs to Tilaran
6. Drive for  20 to 30 minutes to the outskirts of the town of Tilaran.
There will be a Total gas Station on your right and the town of Tilaran in front of you.
Turn away from the main entrance to the town, (LEFT) almost like you are headed back. Follow signs to Neuvo Arenal and Volcano.
7. 15 minutes you will reach a fork on the road. Stay to the LEFT, following signs to Fortuna, and Arenal Volcano.
8. Follow this winedy road around the lake for about 90 minutes. Drive up a steep hill and you reach the town of Neuvo Arenal.
Continue Straight down a step hill, passed the German Bakery until you come to a 3 way, there will be business signs and a bus shelter.
TURN LEFT. Follow road to La Fortuna.
Drive time from Neuvo Arenal to La Fortuna , 45 to 55 minutes.

Taking bus to La Fortuna from San Jose

Taking the bus from San Jose to La Fortuna is comfortable fast and safe, it will take 4- 4.5 hours; sit back and enjoy the view, the bus ride is a tour in itself and cost next to nothing.

When you get on the bus ask the driver if the bus goes to La Fortuna, simply say, La Fortuna, he will say si or no.

It will cost 2,800 colones, a little over 5 dollars. The buses depart San Jose daily at 7:30am, 9:30am, 12:45pm, 3:30pm and the last bus at 6:30pm.

The bus will make a few stops at other bus terminal along the way, if you need to use the facilities do it fast, sometimes the stop is shorter than others and you do not want to watch the bus drive away with your bags. Make sure the bus driver sees you getting off the bus and knows why, Just mention when you get off the bus (YO VOY a LA BANOS)

The La Fortuna is a large bus stop; the driver should inform everyone when you have arrived. Everyone will get off the bus as it stops here for some time. The bus pulls up under a shelter, in front of an electronic store (Importada Monge) and a large Grocery store (Mega Super)
